Fans question credentials as Solskjaer tipped to fall on his sword
Liverpool fans appear to be split on whether Philippe Coutinho should return and will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fall on his sword at Old Trafford? All in our forum…
Cornet a back-up to Salah
Cornet is not a top quality player (yet), but is quite young and has been used by Lyon mainly as an impact player. This may be the attraction, if indeed we are looking at him – basically a player who would be backup to Sala or Mane.
I would prefer an attacker with more quality though

I actually think it’s more likely to be a young up and coming player who fits the mould who they can work on but isn’t quite there yet or someone like Pepe who’s had a fanastic season showing what he can do and has the skills they look for but it’s just the 1 season so he can’t be making demands around playing time etc just yet.
I don’t see it whatsoever being an established attacker.

Coutinho return a no brainer…
If the money is right for Coutinho I would take him in a heartbeat… He would have a point to prove… both to us and the club and for the matter everyone else as well.
I would expect him to work harder than ever before in his career… a loan move with a option to buy would be amazing business…

City have got options aplenty. We need them too. Phil would slot into any system. The only thing that tells me that Klopp won’t go for him is the obvious, 6 mids – Fab, Gini, Hendo, Milner, Naby and Ox and 7 if you add Shaq.
Yes, Phil can slot into left forward (Mane) and yes he can come in as the 10 in mid but I just don’t think Liverpool will consider him or see it as a major priority.
Barca still owe us nearly 90 mill for Phil and I think Liverpool will like to continue receiving those hefty installments.

He was terrible as a CM. He played ok in the forward 3 but not to Mane’s level. Can’t understand wanting to put someone in the midfield that would unbalance and compromise the tactics.
Putting a creative midfielder in does not automatically mean more creativity or goals. Something will have to give for such a change, like our full backs (our main source of attack) would have to hold back for instance.
I never understood this need for more goals and creativity from midfield when the team as a whole is scoring and creating loads. And if anyone says “but we drew 7 games last season” I say what if we had a creative midfielder in those draws would turn to defeat as we get hit on the counter? It’s as lazy an argument as those saying they would of changed to victories.
Football is about synergy of the team, not just throwing players in without thinking of the consequences.

If we want to win the league, we need to sign players who are already game-changers, or who have the potential to become game-changers fairly soon e.g. like we did for our defence in signing Van Dijk, Alisson and Robertson.
Cornet does not fit into either category, and I would target a higher quality attacker. Competition for Salah or Mane is not an issue, the main issue is winning the league, not keeping players happy
Songman
We need Phil and Fernandes. City has become stronger and the yankees do not want to spend money…

I agree with a lot of what threeps says.
Some very valid points. Couthino was very good at times wide left and midfield. Hence why Barca paid big money for him. Other times like wba at home when the four of them started we still couldn’t create anything or score.
We aren’t all our attack anymore. Tactics have changed. It’s not all hung ho. We are still very good to watch and we still score and create plenty of chances
Like ginger says, we could bring in an up and coming your player who can take the burden off the front 3 at times.
Cannot see us bringing couthino back.

Ole to fall on his sword
Happy, I’m a huge fan of Ole but I fear he will fall on his sword sooner than later because the players aren’t fully on board and the board are as clueless as Richard Keys in a suffragette meeting!

Just like Roy,me too happy I wish I had your optimism for the coming season. Its bloody difficult to be optimistic with the same playing squad that finished 6th & 32 pnts behind the champs last season.Hope I m very wrong and we go on to lift the title….

Ole support fading…
@happyhurling – I see you have come to terms with your reservations about Ole and are now behind him. I’m sure him saying things like this win you over ….. “I would rather be an optimist and be wrong than a pessimist and be right. “
He also said ..
Building a team or rebuilding a squad takes time. I am not going to ask for too much time because as manager you’re also under pressure straightaway, maybe not for results but the way we want to play football. I hope with the way we approach games, the fans will see what we’re trying to do and the results will come.
This is what I’ve been trying to tell you for years about what progress is and the way forward. First you build the team, the style and if you do it right then the results will come as a consequence. You have argued the opposite, focus on results however they may come and then afterwards turn attention to style.

Mac – I was always behind him, I loved Ole as a player and hoped he would do a good job. My questions were around his credentials for the job. He’s proven he can get the team playing at a good level, now he needs to do it over a season. It’s a big one for him coming up.
That said I’m really looking forward to seeing you “happy to take style over results” in the coming season. So I won’t see any moaning from you when we drop points? Perfect!
happyhurling
@happyhurling – I won’t make a big deal out of it, but that to me is a contradiction. You were always behind him (ie his appointment) but had reservations about his credentials. Sounds like something less than full support to me.
And happy, you really have to start getting your facts right if you want to pull me up over my post history. I really belief in your mind your mind you create a pidgeon hole for fans who do not subscribe to your views and then tar them all with the same brush.
I have NEVER complained about results. In fact the opposite, I have always said the result doesn’t matter. (you recall the results v performance debate not to mention the progress one). Fact is, in most case the bad result came as a result of a bad performance and that’s what I complained about.
And if you recall, we had arguments when we had good results and I argued the result did not reflect performance. For you the two words are synontymous!
