Daniel Farke says Norwich will have something “special” planned for their FA Cup third-round replay at Chelsea.
The Canaries head to Stamford Bridge on the back holding the Premier League champions to a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge.
Farke’s men followed that up with a battling 1-0 win at Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Bristol City, who earned great plaudits for their Carabao Cup efforts against Manchester City.
The German believes Norwich will have a free shot at pulling off a shock result in Wednesday’s trip to west London, which will be broadcast live and see the winners at home to Newcastle in round four.
“I’m hoping for another brilliant performance against one of the giants, and we’ll have a special plan for tomorrow,” Farke said at a press conference, as quoted on the club’s official website.
“Hopefully with a really good performance and, if Chelsea aren’t at their very best, then we’ll always have a chance.
“It will be important to keep as much possession as possible, as we don’t want to be running after the ball for 90 minutes – so we have to be brave in our possession and our pressing.”
Chelsea are without a win in the last four matches, which have all been draws and the last three goalless.
Farke, though, accepts Norwich cannot afford to underestimate the challenge ahead.
“They haven’t scored for three games so they will be wanting to show they can score, especially in a home match,” the Canaries boss added.
“They know they have to be focused to beat us after how well we played in the first game, so it’s going to be trickier to be successful – especially as it’s away.
“Chelsea will maybe be focusing on the FA Cup to win a trophy, but we can play without any pressure and enjoy this game. We’re looking forward to it.”
Whatever line-up Chelsea boss Antonio Conte chooses to send out, Farke knows his team must not expect an easy ride at Stamford Bridge,
“They can’t have a weak line-up,” the German added.
“Chelsea played with (Gary) Cahill, (Davide) Zappaccosta, (Antonio) Rudiger, (David) Luiz and Willian in the first game, who are all amazing players.
“I expect them to have a strong squad, and that’s what we’re preparing for.”
Norwich’s new signing Marcus Edwards is not eligible following his loan switch from Tottenham.
Striker Cameron Jerome will not travel as he ties up a move to Derby, while club captain Russell Martin is set for a loan move to Scottish side Rangers.
