Ferdinand calls for ‘tremendous’ Man Utd swoop to revolutionise attack

Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez TEAMtalk

Rio Ferdinand says his former side Manchester United should consider a move for “tremendous” Wolves striker Raul Jimenez to revolutionise their attack.

United have shown real attacking promise since the Premier League’s restart, with Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford all in fine form.

However, United lacked fluency against Chelsea on Sunday with the former two only featuring as substitutes. Rashford had chances of his own but struggled to affect proceedings without Martial and Greenwood.

Indeed, despite the trio’s fantastic form, speculation remains about whether United will sign another striker before next season.

Speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand said he thinks Mexico international Jimenez could be the answer.

“I wouldn’t say no at all. I think he’s something different to what they’ve got,” Ferdinand said.

“What I like about him is he scores all types of goals. He’s at the back post heading things and bullying defenders, and he can score tremendous goals out of nothing.”

Jimenez has scored 17 Premier League goals this season, his second in the top flight. Indeed, his most recent goal – a volley against Burnley – was arguably the pick of the bunch.

Speculation also remains about his future at Molineux, with United and Juventus linked in recent months.

TOUGH ASK FOR WOLVES TO KEEP JIMENEZ?

Ferdinand added that Wolves will face a tough ask keeping Jimenez at the club amid such interest.

“I think Wolves will do well to keep hold of him,” the former centre-back said. “I think he’s a player with immense talent and I think his goalscoring record over the last two years has been really good.

“Before that, his record was a bit shady, but he has come to the Premier League and hit the ground running. He’s been a breath of fresh air.

“As you can tell, he seems a great character around the place, and for a top club, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are sniffing.

“We’ve seen it in the media reports in the last few days that clubs are looking.”

Wolves won 2-0 against Crystal Palace on Monday but they remain three points off the top four, with United playing on Wednesday.
