Finger pointed at Man Utd, as Dortmund boss makes Sancho claim

Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has hinted the blame lays at the door of Man Utd regarding concerns he has over England superstar Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils made acquiring Sancho their number one priority in the summer transfer window.

Though their numerous approaches were eventually rebuffed, hopes remain high of a deal being able to be reached in a future window.

In the meantime, Sancho, 20, remains a Dortmund player, but has not had his customary impact since negotiations broke down.

The forward notched a mightily impressive 20 goals and 20 assists in all competitions last season. The current campaign has been less fruitful thus far, however, with just one goal and three assists racked up in his first six outings.

Early results in Europe have also been below par. Dortmund succumbed to a potentially costly defeat to Lazio in their Champions League opener last week.

Now, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of their crucial clash with Zenit on Wednesday night, Dortmund manager Favre has hinted that Man Utd’s interest could be having an undue ‘influence’ on his early season struggles.

“Every player has slow periods,” Favre explained (via Goal).

“There was a lot of talk about Jadon in the summer, something like that can also have an influence.

“But no player is consistently in top form for a year, that’s impossible. You have to accept that.”

Man Utd monitoring Leipzig ace

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Manchester United will be keeping an eye on RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano when they face each other in the Champions League.

After beating PSG in their group stage opener, United are back in European action on Wednesday. They host a Leipzig side who also won on matchday one.

It will give United a good opportunity to watch Upamecano in action. The defender has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months to ease their defensive concerns.

Neither Victor Lindelof nor Eric Bailly have fully convinced as Harry Maguire’s first-choice partner. Even the captain himself has had his own struggles of late.

Therefore, Upamecano has emerged as a possible target for the Red Devils. However, regular Champions League football seems to be essential in persuading the player to join.
