Jurgen Klopp: Hugs Liverpool's star man, Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino is the latest Liverpool player to declare their love for Jurgen Klopp, saying he was “very happy” when he was appointed.

The Brazilian had been playing out of position on the right wing for the Reds under Brendan Rodgers – and had often been restricted to the bench – but has been moved central by Klopp.

Firmino has started Liverpool’s last two Premier League games against Manchester City and Swansea and is likely to start against Newcastle on Sunday after being rested for Wednesday’s Capital One Cup clash with Southampton.

He told the Daily Telegraph: “(Klopp) is an excellent coach. He managed Dortmund and has won titles in the Bundesliga, which is very difficult. And he has always been really competitive in the Champions League.

“I was very happy when he was appointed. I hadn’t really been playing up to that point, but (Klopp) knew me and I knew him. We get on well. He gets on with all the players.

“He has made a really good impression and he is having an effect already. I think that we can achieve things.”

Firmino has also revealed that he spoke to Philippe Coutinho – who warned him about the English weather – before he joined Liverpool.

“(Coutinho) said that the weather here – not just in Liverpool, but in England – was not very good. He said that it rains all day and now I can see that it really does rain a lot.

“But he also said that this club is like a family, and that the players are very nice. I trusted him on that. I really wanted to come.”
