“Flat” Gary Neville makes Manchester United manager prediction following bore draw

Gary Neville believes Manchester United could announce their new manager in the coming days to appease the fans as their Champions League hopes suffered another setback.

United were held to a 1-1 draw against Leicester to leave them off the pace for the top four. The Reds sit sixth, four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal who have played two games less. It is looking grim and Neville believes a new manager could be announced in the coming days.

It appears to be a two-horse race between Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino but the situation is dragging on. Some may argue the pressure is off as Ralf Rangnick is in charge for the rest of the season.

However speaking on Sky Sports after the Leicester game Neville reiterated that a quick appointment is needed. The interview process has started and cannot drag on he says.

Gary Neville expects a decision

The former Reds defender believes the draw against the Foxes could now prompt a decision.

There are just eight games remaining of the season and Neville says an announcement would galvanise the club. As things stand the fans are flat and bored according to Neville and a managerial appointment will lift the mood.

The interview process continues and Neville has urged United to make a decision.

“Look, because the interview process started, publicly, sort of seven to 10 days ago, I said you’ve got to conclude it quite quickly or else it becomes a bit of a mess,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“There were reports earlier in the week that Ten Hag was awaiting details as to whether he was going to be offered a contract or not. I suspect after that performance today what we’ll see is a PR spike whereby the manager might be named.”

Fans flat and bored

The top four is now looking out of reach but United could be staring at their worst season in decades. They finished with just 64 points in the 2013/14 season and need 15 points to better that.

Going off the Leicester game it could be touch and go. But Neville says he is no longer angry, more bored, with what he is witnessing.

“I’m not angry, I don’t think any Manchester United fans left this ground angry tonight because we’ve gone probably past anger, we’re just flat,” he added on Sky Sports. “We’re bored and there was nothing there today.”

Manchester United are back in action when they face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.
