‘Flop’ Jose Enrique granted early release by Liverpool

Jose Enrique: Ends five years at Liverpool

Jose Enrique has been released early by Liverpool in order to help the Spaniard find a new club and get his stalling career back on track.

Signed by Kenny Dalglish from Newcastle in 2011, the Spaniard quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back.

Enrique played 78 games during his first two seasons at Anfield, helping the club win the 2012 League Cup.

The 30-year-old has found himself on the periphery of the squad since however, and has not featured just once in the Premier League this season.

Paul Joyce of the Daily Express reports that with Enrique’s contract expiring in the summer, the club have taken the decision to release him early ‘in order to help him plot the next move in his stalled career’.

Enrique was asked to train with the reserves by former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers last season.

Alberto Moreno, Jon Flanagan and Brad Smith are now ahead of the Spaniard in the left-back pecking order, with Enrique not having featured in a matchday squad since February.
