Former colleague names two traits Fernandes learned to help him ‘explode’

Bruno Fernandes’ former teammate says that the Manchester United midfielder’s recent explosion in form is down to him learning two vital traits.

The Portugal international has already become one of United’s best signings in recent seasons, despite only arriving in January.

Indeed, in that time he has won four club Player of the Month awards, picking up his latest in November. What’s more, his record of 22 goals and 13 assists in 36 games speaks for itself.

Behind such form, though, are several key attributes. Fernandes’ goal record comes from his desire to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side progress. The 26-year-old has also acted as a vital leader both on and off the pitch.

However, ex-Sampdoria goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano, who worked with Fernandes while the pair were playing for the Serie A club, has opened up on his progression since they worked together.

“I was one of the few who supported him,” Viviano told TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Bruno has always had everything, only that he arrived in Italy and he lacked tactics and intensity.

“He learned it and now it has exploded, also because he has everything: right, left, technique but also an incredible run.

“He is a technical leader, which Manchester United perhaps lacked.”

Fernandes, who scored five goals and assisted three others for Sampdoria, moved to Sporting in summer 2017.

Indeed, he made his name in his home country, contributing to 115 strikes in 137 games. During the summer of 2019, Tottenham and United both wanted to sign him.

And despite Spurs going closest to a deal, the transfer never materialised, leading to his move to Old Trafford in January.

Van de Beek, Fernandes eye roles

Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek has said that he enjoys playing alongside Fernandes for the Red Devils.

The Dutchman has struggled for game time since his move from Ajax but earned his first Premier League start in Sunday’s clash with Southmampton.

And amid a battle for minutes, the pair have spoken about how they compliment each others’ games.
