Former Man Utd star calls on Martial to pull his finger out

Martial and Lingard TEAMtalk

Manchester United star Anthony Martial must do more for the team, according to one former Old Trafford star.

United are very much back in the race for a top-four finish after sacking Jose Mourinho and appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis.

Under the Norwegian, the Red Devils won eight games on the trot before drawing with Burnley in dramatic fashion in midweek.

But Solskjaer has reinvigorated the squad, with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford all stepping their game up an extra level since Mourinho’s departure.

Martial, himself, had been tipped to be on his way out of the club, with Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal all said to be keen on his signature.

However, the Frenchman has also prospered under Solskjaer and last week signed a new contract that committed him to the club until 2024.

But former United midfielder Paul Ince remains unconvinced by the forward and believes there is a lot more to come from the player.

He said in the Daily Star: “You’d like to think so [it’s the start of a new era].

“You probably think that two or three months ago Martial was reported to wanting to leave the club and go somewhere else according to his agent.

“So obviously with the fact he has now put pen to paper on a five-year contract, it’s great for the club, great for the fans.

“He needs to do a bit more. I still think there is a lot more, he’s only young he’s 23, but he needs to do a lot more.”
