Jurgen Klopp told why Liverpool must break bank for Euro 2020 sensation
Liverpool have been told to do all in their power to bring Sweden striker Alexander Isak to Anfield this summer.
The Sweden international has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting forwards over the past year. Despite struggling for minutes at Borussia Dortmund, he hit the ground running in Spain with Real Sociedad. Indeed, Isak registered 17 La Liga goals in 2020/21, winning the LaLiga’s Young Player of the Season award in the process.
And he has carried that form into Euro 2020, with two eye-catching displays for Sweden. After his energetic display caught the eye against Spain, he followed up with a Man of the Match winning display as Slovakia were beaten.
Now some of the world’s top clubs are hovering – and Gary Lineker can certainly see why.
Liverpool and Chelsea have also reportedly registered transfer interest in Isak. Jurgen Klopp supposedly see him as Roberto Firmino’s successor, while the Blues look for an immediate striker signing.
Dortmund too seemingly seem keen to bring him back to Germany. They have a buy-back clause in his deal, which they could activate should Erling Haaland leave.
Indeed, his exit clause is apparently set at £60m.
However, former Reds defender Jose Enrique would love to see Isak at Anfield.
Speaking about the player, Enrique told his Instagram page: “I know him very well because he play[s] for Real Sociedad.
“He is a top player, definitely I would sign him. [He] is really young so hopefully we can go for him, if we can’t go for Erling Haaland or someone like that.”
Transfer Chatter - Liverpool in for Sweden forward, Chelsea's verbal agreement with full-back and Wolves chasing ex-Atletico striker
Jurgen Klopp is monitoring a 17-goal Swedish international, Chelsea have a verbal agreement with one of the world's most exciting full-backs and Wolves toying with approaching free agent, all in today's transfer chatter.
The forward isn’t the only player Enrique has recommended to Liverpool.
The former defender has backed them to complete a deal for Leeds United winger Raphinha.
He said: “Hopefully we can sign him, it will be a great addition for our squad.”
Enrique has also previously suggested moves for Kylian Mbappe and Haaland, although he labelled Raphinha a more ‘affordable’ option.
Sweden boss talks up Isak talents
Sweden boss Janne Andersson has also offered Isak’s suitors a hint of what they could expect were they to sign Isak.
He told UEFA (via Goal): “It’s really good to see him on the pitch, he’s a huge talent. He’s a young player who’s still got a lot of room for improvement.
“I think there is a lot more to come from him. He played really well today.”
Asked about the 1-0 win, Andersson added: “It’s good to have four points after two games.
“We’ve played seven games this year, and conceded just one goal. Our attack deserved more today, they were fantastic at times.”
