Shock as frozen out Tottenham man wanted by Barcelona; Spurs chase USA international

Tottenham defender Juan Foyth is a shock target for Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Argentinian centre-back has seem his opportunities limited under Jose Mourinho with just seven appearances this season.

There was talk of the 22-year-old defender leaving in January but Mourinho was quick to block any moves and said there was “no chance” of the centre-back leaving.

The La Plata-born defender indeed stayed with Spurs, but he has not been involved in a Premier League squad this calendar year and he appears to be itching to get some regular football.

Only last month he hinted he could move on this summer.

“You always want to play to feel like a player and feel good. It is not easy not to play either. But I don’t know, we have to wait now for the transfer period to open.

“If I am going to have opportunities here, I am very comfortable. And if they are not going to count on me, the best thing would be to look for another team,.” Foyth said to TNT.

And according to the Spanish outlet, River Plate and Boca Juniors are also keeping tabs on him, as well as Barca.

Barca though appear keen on Foyth’s signature, but concede a deal will be “complicated”. They are looking for a defender with Jean-Clair Todibo likely to move permanently this summer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham could see Foyth leave and recruit USA international Sergino Dest.

Tottenham are among the club’s interested in signing Dest, reports CalcioMercato.

The 19-year-old right-back has been linked with a move this summer having broken through at Ajax this year.
