Pundit claims Lampard has concerns for ‘disappearing’ Chelsea star

Kai Havertz, Timo Werner Chelsea

Frank Leboeuf has claimed that Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will want to see more impact from Kai Havertz, who often “disappears” in games.

Havertz was the Blues’ most expensive signing of their £200million-plus splurge in the recent transfer window. Indeed, he has begun to prove his worth with one Premier League goal and two assists.

But key for Lampard is how the midfielder interacts with his fellow new signings. While he has shown an understanding with fellow German Timo Werner, he is yet to establish a strong accord with Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech has only recently returned from injury and netted his first Premier League goal in Saturday’s win over Burnley.

Speaking to ESPN, though, Lebouef said that Havertz must offer more chances to his teammates further forward.

“I think it’s getting better, some players are getting better. I’m very pleased for Hakim Ziyech, getting fit and giving his best,” the former Blues star said.

“But I’m still not convinced about Kai Havertz, I still want more from him. I want more impact from him where I think he disappears.

“I’m sure Frank is still not completely happy with the way they worked together.

“Sometimes it seemed like they were looking for each other like they don’t really know each other. I’m looking for something better, much better from Chelsea.

“With the players they have, they’re capable of giving much more than we saw. Even though they got the win, the clean sheet, everything was going their way, but I can’t be happy with the performance 100 per cent.”

More pleasing for Lampard, though, will be his side’s latest clean sheet. After a shaky start from Chelsea’s defence, new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has overseen five shutouts in six games.

Another player who has contributed to Chelsea’s stronger defence is centre-back Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian has appeared in four of his side’s last five Premier League games, taking the captain’s armband on his debut.

However one report has claimed that he wanted to return to AC Milan ahead of signing at Stamford Bridge.
