Frozen-out Liverpool forward offered surprise January escape route

Divock Origi TEAMtalk

Divock Origi has been offered a way out of Liverpool, with Turkish giants Galatasaray preparing a January offer, according to reports.

The striker was tipped to leave Anfield in the summer, but eventually missed out on sealing his exit. He is yet to feature for the Reds this season, having been exiled to the reserves.

According to Turkish Football, Galatasaray are willing to take Origi on loan in January, where they would give him a prominent role. The Turkish club lost last season’s top scorer – former Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis – in the summer, and failed to find a replacement for him.

With sole first team striker Eren Derdiyok currently injured, they are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements.

A major factor in Galatasaray’s efforts to sign Origi is their participation in the Champions League, which they hope will tempt Origi to make the switch in the winter.

Origi spent last season on loan at Wolfsburg, scoring six goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances. Last month, his father claimed Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with the Belgian in training, despite not selecting him for games.

He told Daily Nation in Kenya: “Divock is still a Liverpool player and is still on contract until the end of the 2019-2020 season.

“The coach [Klopp] is already happy with what he’s seeing with Divock in training and it’s up to the young man to now fight for a place in the team.

“He has seen the difference between Liverpool and other clubs and will obviously know that he has to fight hard to remain in Liverpool which is a bigger club.

“Three months in football is a long time and Divock is already doing well in training and the coach is happy. Let’s wait and see what will happen between now and the winter window.”
