FSG only need £3m adjustment with Origi the bait for 83-goal Liverpool target

Divock Origi TEAMtalk

Liverpool and Celtic are being tipped to swap strikers this summer, with Jurgen Klopp bringing in a forward who has been on his radar all season.

The Reds boss is expected to bring in a central attacker this summer, having often turned to Mo Salah in Roberto Firmino’s absence to fill the roll. The Egyptian is not as effective playing through the middle, while Firmino’s lack of goals has finally prompted Klopp to act.

Celtic frontman Odsonne Edouard is said to have been watched by Liverpool throughout the season. Indeed, Klopp is a known admirer of the prolific Frenchman.

The 23-year-old was signed from PSG in a bargain £8m deal in 2018 after an initial loan. Edouard has gone on to score an impressive 83 goals in 162 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side.

Transfer expert Ian McGarry claims that the Reds are very keen on landing the player. Edouard would only cost around £15m, given that he only has a year left on his contract.

However, it would appear that a swap deal is on the cards, with Anfield Central claiming that Divock Origi could head to Celtic Park.

The Belgian forward is expected to quit Anfield this summer in the search for regular first-team football. Newcastle and more latterly Inter Milan and Leeds have been linked with a move for Origi.

Andy Robertson confident Liverpool's season can be fixed

Liverpool's Andy Robertson admits results haven't been good enough but is confident the club can have a strong end to the season.

The report adds that Liverpool’s hopes of bringing in Edouard hinge on Origi moving in the opposite direction, with the latter available for around £12m.

The Reds star would certainly be guaranteed more action in Glasgow but it’s unclear whether he would accept the switch.

Liverpool turn to Betis star

Liverpool have made enquiries for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez, according to a report in Spain.

Georginio Wijnaldum’s time at Anfield looks all but up, with a free-transfer switch to Barcelona in the offing. The Dutch midfielder was quizzed about his future on international duty on Wednesday and has again claimed their was “no news”. The 30-year-old has continually put the ball in the court of the champions, but an agreement on a new deal has not materialised.

The Reds are looking around for a replacement and the latest name in the frame is 26-year-old Rodriguez.

Guido Rodriguez TEAMtalk

Estadio Deportivo, via Sport Witness report the Reds have “followed up” on the Argentine in case Wijnaldum leaves. The holding midfielder is described as “more defensive” than Wijnaldum.

Rodriguez only arrived in Spain in January 2020 for 3m from Mexican club America. However, he has quickly become the mainstay of Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

The Mexican outfit do have a 25% sell on clause on the player. That is after Betis took advantage of his contractual situation in 2020.

Arsenal also showing interest

Rodriguez was linked to Arsenal on Tuesday with El Mundo Deportivo suggesting the Gunners will “push hard” for the 10-cap Argentina international.

He has been watched by Arsenal scouts on numerous occasions, but is under contract until 2024. He also has a termination clause of 80m, per the source.

Betis are said to be calm, but are understood to be willing to cash in on the player this summer. El Mundo report that Betis are are “obliged” to sell on one of their stars to balance their books.

The Seville-based side will be more than happy to enter an auction for Rodriguez. Indeed, the player represents their best chance to make the most profit.
