Gareth Bale caught sniggering at Eden Hazard after Real Madrid snub

Modric Bale Real Madrid January 2022

Gareth Bale was seen laughing at Eden Hazard on Thursday after the Real Madrid man was told to sit down after warming up from the bench.

Both players were forced to watch from the bench as Real were beaten 1-0 by Atheltic Club in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. Alejandro Berenguer scored the winner just a minute from time with both Bale and Hazard benched.

Isco and Eduard Camavinga got the nod from the bench but neither Bale or Hazard got any minutes.

Bale has returned to full fitness after a series of injuries and Covid-19 have blighted his season. The Wales star has made just three starts this season – in the first three LaLiga games.

And the Wales ace has a new pal on the bench in former Chelsea star Hazard.

Bale and Hazard have spent the last 180 minutes on the bench together without getting any minutes.

The Belgium forward did get a runout in the 2-2 draw with Elche at the end of January. But he was benched against Atheltic Club.

But during the game Hazard was told to warm up, but after he had finished, Ancelotti told him to sit back down. It dashed the 31-year-old’s hopes of getting on and Bale was caught sniggering at the situation.

Bale out of contract in June

The former Spurs star definitely glanced up at Hazard before laughing. Whether Hazard saw the funny side is unclear, but Bale certainly has not lost his sense of humour.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti claimed Bale and Hazard could start: “It’s possible they will be starters, Asensio also, who has recovered well.

“Vinicius and Rodrygo return but they are 20 and not 60 like me (laughs). They can recover.”

Bale is out of contract at the end of June and will almost certainly move on after a nightmare few years in Spain.

Hazard meanwhile has another two years to run on his deal. He was linked with a return to Chelsea in December.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich still has an affinity for Hazard. However, The Sunday World claimed that Chelsea insiders had ‘distanced themselves’ from a deal for Hazard.
