Gary Lineker has questioned Cristiano Ronaldo’s awarding of the Premier League’s Player of the Month ahead of Mohamed Salah.

Manchester United forward Ronaldo enjoyed an impressive month following his return to Old Trafford. After netting twice on his second debut for the Red Devils against Newcastle, he scored against West Ham.

Liverpool’s Salah also scored two goals in three games. While Ronaldo’s goals against the Magpies were memorable because they were the first since his return, Salah’s against Manchester City will go down as one of the best in his collection.

Indeed, he beat several City players before finishing into the corner from a tight angle with his weaker foot.

As a result, Salah has been labelled by some pundits as the best player in the Premier League as it stands.

Writing onĀ Twitter, Lineker claimed that Liverpool’s forward should have scooped the prize for September.

He wrote: “He’s [Ronaldo] been terrific, but Mo Salah should have won this… comfortably.”

Salah also got an assist against City and has scored in six of Liverpool’s seven league games this term.

Still, Ronaldo won the prize, which is voted for by a combination of fans and experts on the Premier League panel.

The Portugal forward, while not contributing to his league recognition, has also helped United elsewhere. He scored a last-minute winner against Villarreal in the Champions League to ease the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Salah has also starred in Europe’s premier competition this season, netting three goals in three games.

Liverpool are looking to muster more of a title challenge this season following last campaign’s struggles.

A 10-game unbeaten run at the end of the term saw them finish third, but they have their sights set higher now.

Salah’s goals have helped Liverpool remain the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League.

As such, the Egyptian has insisted that his side have what it takes to go all the way.
