Neville appalled at Man Utd’s flailing strategy in ‘easiest’ transfer window

Gary Neville says it is “appalling” that Manchester United have been unable to add more signings to their squad as the transfer deadline looms.

United have only signed Donny van de Beek so far, with their hunt to sign a winger dragging on. Borussia Dortmund are standing firm on Jadon Sancho’s valuation and have reportedly rejected a £91million Red Devils bid.

What’s more, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly keen to sign a left-back, with talks underway for Alex Telles. Several reports have also mooted a new centre-back arriving at Old Trafford.

Taking to Twitter, Neville vented his fury at United chiefs for failing to get transfers done in “ample time”.

“It’s appalling that in this market which is probably the easiest in PL history to get transfers done that United haven’t done more yet!” he wrote.

“They must get Ole a CB, LB and Forward pre deadline! The others are managing to get things over the line why not United!”

Neville has previously urged United not to panic-buy, telling the club to pick and sign targets in good time.

However, as the transfer deadline looms, he feels that that strategy could change.

He wrote in another tweet: “Panic Buy! They’ve needed these positions filling for 12 months, had a national lockdown to regroup and re-set and ample time to manoeuvre deals to a conclusion.”

The window for trades across Europe closes on Monday. However a separate window allowing for trades between Premier League and EFL clubs runs until October 16.

With a deal for Sancho looking unlikely, reports suggest Ousmane Dembele is now a strong target. United are close to agreeing a deal to sign the Frenchman, who is unlikely to feature under Ronald Koeman at Barcelona.

As United face anger for their lack of signings, their treatment of their only acquisition has also been questioned.

Dutchman Van de Beek is yet to start a Premier League game under Solskjaer since his arrival.

As such, his impressive contributions as a substitute have left his agent angry at his new club.
