Gary Neville has labelled Man City star Kevin De Bruyne “absolutely amazing” and says he would love to see him at Manchester United.

The Belgian is regarded as one of the elite players in the world game, having joined City back in 2015.

On Wednesday evening, De Bruyne completed his 18th assist of the season – equalling his own record set in 2016/17. He needs just two more to equal the record set by Thierry Henry in 2004.

But with City facing a possible two-year expulsion from the Champions League, there remains talk De Bruyne could leave.

City have appealed their ban to the court of arbitration for sport.

If the ban is upheld, then De Bruyne admits he may be off.

“I’m just waiting,” De Bruyne told the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, as cited by The Guardian. “The club told us they are going to appeal and they are almost 100% sure they are right. That’s why I’m waiting to see what will happen. I trust my team.

“Once the decision is made, I will review everything. Two years would be long, but in the case of one year I might see.”

United were linked with De Bruyne while he was with Wolfsburg. Now Neville has admitted he would still love to see him at the Theatre of Dreams.

“I watched Kevin De Bruyne last night [against Newcastle] and just felt blessed,” Neville told the Next Goal Wins podcast.

“Every time I watch him play I feel privileged to be in the ground. He is absolutely amazing. He’s a beautiful thing on a football pitch.

“He wears a blue shirt, I don’t like that he wears a blue shirt. I wish it was a Manchester United red shirt but it’s not so you just have to watch him and marvel and think ‘Wow, what a player’.”

De Bruyne suggests he could yet stay

De Bruyne also insists that without talk of the European ban, there would be no reason to quit City. That’s even if the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona show an interest him.

“I play for one of the best teams in the world, play in England – for my competitive view the best competition – and I like that.

“It remains a challenge to be the best and I need that too.”

De Bruyne currently has three years remaining on his City contract and would command a huge fee were he to leave.
