Gary Neville believes Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham could win the Premier League title due to their “incredible” strike force.

The Portuguese took over from Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019, and after a testing first campaign he has overseen an overhaul of a team that currently sits second in the table.

Mourinho brought back club legend Gareth Bale, with a permanent deal now being mooted. Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, Joe Hart, Carlos Vinicius and Joe Rodon also signed.

The Premier League title race will be a much tighter affair this time around, mainly due to issues surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.

And Tottenham’s impressive start has fuelled talk that they could challenge favourites Liverpool and Manchester City.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, as cited by the Daily Mirror, Neville claimed that it would be a great story if Tottenham do lift the trophy.

He said: “I said a couple of weeks ago on Monday Night Football that Spurs couldn’t win the league. I still don’t think they can.

“But I do agree with Jamie Carragher that it would be the most outstanding story to see Jose Mourinho win it with Tottenham.

“It would be something that would alarm Chelsea fans, Manchester United fans and Arsenal fans. It would be one of the great stories, because Tottenham don’t win leagues!

“He’s got the forward players to do it. You think of the strike force and the goal threat – it’s incredible.”

Mourinho sanctions centre-back move

Tottenham are reportedly preparing to make a move for experienced Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng.

According to German publication BILD (as cited by football.london), Spurs want the Germany international to bolster their centre-back options.

The 32-year-old began his career at Hertha Berlin before joining Hamburger SV in 2007. He then headed to Manchester City in 2010.

But Boateng only lasted one season in England before heading back to Germany with Bayern in 2011.

Since joining the German giants, the veteran defender has won multiple Bundesliga titles and the Champions League last season.

However, his future at the club is unclear, with Boateng in the final year of his contract.

The imposing centre-back is free to speak to clubs outside of Germany from January, and it is claimed that Spurs are very keen on a deal. Read more…
