Manchester United have themselves not just a star on the field in Edinson Cavani – but also a class act off it, according to a biography about the striker.
He is already off the mark for United, having scored in Saturday’s impressive 3-1 triumph at Everton.
The Uruguayan is PSG’s all-time top goalscorer with 200 goals for the Ligue 1 outfit – but does not come with the big ego you might expect.
In fact, Cavani* is the complete opposite; an honest man who is generous with his time and remains humble despite his success.
An extract from his autobiography; El Matador, by Romain Molina, illustrates exactly how kind and considerate a person he is.
‘One day, he did a photo shoot for Hugo Boss, who is a partner of PSG,’ the extract reads.
‘At the end of the shoot, Cavani asks for the reference of a costume he likes. The photographer tells him he can take it, a brand manager confirms it.
‘But Cavani refuses, explaining that he earns a lot of money and that he does not need to be given a gift. He just wanted to know the reference to buy the same one.
‘He took two and at Hugo Boss, it was the first time we saw a PSG player do that. It’s a little trick. But there is only Cavani who does that.
‘He used to often go and eat with club employees and not the ‘stars’. He used to always talk with the cleaning ladies, with the housekeepers.
‘Do you realize that Cavani spent a month in his hometown in Salto while on vacation? In the middle of winter there! It was 7 degrees and he got there by regional bus.
‘Six hour drive! When you earn €16million per year, it is not common.’
Leonardo admits Cavani regrets
Cavani left PSG a hero at the end of his deal, with PSG opting against offering him an extension.
His former teammate Thiago Silva was also allowed to depart for free – the Brazilian moving to Chelsea.
He said (via Get Football News France): “At one moment, we have to say ‘what are we going to do’?
“We spoke clearly with them. It was a moment where we could not give them exactly what they wanted. It was a financial and generational problem.
“This was the moment to count on Marquinhos and Kimpembe. The decisions were difficult to take. Aside from that, we could have made a mistake.”
