Gerrard’s LA debut date set

The 34-year-old midfielder is currently on an end-of-season break in Dubai after bringing the curtain down on his Liverpool career in Sunday’s 6-1 defeat at Stoke.

When he returns, Gerrard will begin preparations for his switch to Major League Soccer, although he cannot officially play for the Galaxy until the league’s summer transfer window opens on July 8.

And coach Bruce Arena has already pencilled in Gerrard’s first appearance in a Galaxy shirt against Club America.

“We expect him here before July 11,” Arena told lagalaxy.com.

“We haven’t finalised a date yet. He will be here, he’ll get some training in and by the time that he’s eligible to play; he’ll be ready to go.”

Gerrard is third in Liverpool’s all-time list after 710 appearances for the club in 17 seasons and has already stated he wants to return to Anfield in the future in some capacity.

“I want to keep playing every week in the final few years of my career and I’m looking forward to embarking on a new challenge with Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS,” he wrote in a letter on Liverpool’s official website.

“I hope to get the opportunity to come back and serve the club again one day.

“I feel that I can make a contribution in some role in the future.”
