Gianluigi Buffon’s FIFA votes cause a huge stir

Italy legend Gigi Buffon did not vote for either Lionel Messi or Neymar as one of the best players of the last season, FIFA has revealed.

As captain of the Italian national team, Buffon voted for the best player and manager of the year and his choices left a big debate around social media, as reported by Calciomercato.

The Juventus star picked the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Luka Modric, snubbing two stars who are regarded as the best players on earth alongside Ronaldo.

It was no coincidence that Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo were among the candidates to win the FIFA best player of the year, eventually won by the Portuguese superstar.

FIFA also revealed the best three managers chosen by Buffon, as well as by all the others captains, national team coaches and media.

The Italy star put Max Allegri and Zinedine Zidane ahead of his former Italy Juventus coach Antonio Conte, a surprising choice given the very strong relationship between the pair.
