Amad Diallo Manchester United

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo can win the Ballon d’Or in the next five years, according to the man responsible for his move to Atalanta.

The 18-year-old signed for the Red Devils in October in an exciting deal which could rise to £37million (Goal). But despite legal issues delaying his move until January, he has still hit the ground running. Indeed, he scored on his Europa League debut with a brilliant headed finish against AC Milan.

Diallo‘s exciting rise is put into context by the fact that fellow October arrival, 19-year-old Facundo Pellistri, remains some way behind Diallo in his development and has joined Alaves on loan.

Diallo, though, earned a call-up to the senior Ivory Coast team this month off the back of his recent showings.

As such, the player’s former mentor has predicted that Diallo can win one of football’s greatest prizes in the next five years. Giovanni Galli spotted the youngster while working as Lucchese’s sporting director and persuaded Atalanta to give him a trial.

“Amad is unique,” Galli told Goal. “But he must make himself stronger.

“At the same time, he must make sure he does not lose his speed, which is a quality that distinguishes him from others.

“In short, I think he has all the qualities to be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or in the next five years.”

Diallo has made a total of four appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side so far.

Three of those have come in the Europa League, the other in last weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Leicester.

According to Galli, though, it will be next season before fans can see the player in a greater role at Old Trafford.

Amad Diallo TEAMtalk

He is very young and has already made his debut in the Europa League just two months after arriving in England,” he added.

“I think next year he will have more chances to stand out in the first team.

“He is a very good player, but he has to remember that talent alone is not enough. He has to work hard and become a footballer who plays for and with the team.”

United return to action when facing Brighton in Premier League action on April 4.
