Glazers tipped to fund four big Man Utd signings to spark revival

Declan Rice, Tyrone Mings, Harry Kane, England

Manchester United owners, the Glazers, are reportedly ready to fund four big-money deals to spark a return to the club’s trophy-laden days.

The Red Devils have now gone four years without winning any silverware, after they lost the Europa League final to Villarreal on Wednesday night. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side crashed to an 11-10 defeat on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Gdansk, with goalkeeper David de Gea missing the decisive spot-kick.

United were roundly condemned for their below-par performance in Poland, with Solskjaer himself claiming that ‘did not turn up’.

And now a report in the Daily Express has highlighted four players, who have all been tipped to sign, that would make an immediate impact on the Red Devils.

Jadon Sancho

The Borussia Dortmund winger has been one of Solskjaer’s top targets over the past two summers. Indeed United tried to bring the attacker back to England after they won the Europa League with Jose Mourinho back in 2017.

But talk is ramping up again that a deal could finally be done, with a cut-price fee of around £77million mooted.

The Bundesliga giants had wanted more than £100m. But they have now decided to part company with the England forward to bolster their bank balance.

What’s more, Sancho is open to heading to Old Trafford and will fill the problem right-wing position. That would also mean more of a central role for Mason Greenwood going forward, with Marcus Rashford continuing to operate from the left.

Youri Tielemans may be on his way from Leicester to Liverpool, while Ozan Kabak could go the other way and Antonio Conte's departure from Inter Milan has set tongues wagging.

Declan Rice

United went with a central midfield axis of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay against Villarreal, but it backfired badly.

While McTominay performed well, Pogba struggled when given more of a disciplined role, and there continue to be question marks over the Frenchman’s long-term Old Trafford future.

If Pogba does move on then a big-money move for Rice could well be on the cards. Despite not being a like-for-like replacement, Rice’s arrival would allow McTominay to play further forward. The Red Devils star has already shown that he has an eye for goal. Giving him more license to get forward may prove to be a masterstroke.

Rice has been outstanding for a much improved West Ham side who qualified for the Europa League this term. However, he will not come cheap – with a fee of around £80m previously quoted, while he is also wanted by Chelsea.

Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane TEAMtalk

It’s been known for some time that Solskjaer’s top priority is to bring in a new partner for Harry Maguire.

Both Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have failed to convince that they are the answer. Indeed, the former particularly had a poor game on Wednesday evening.

Villarreal’s Pau Torres is believed to be United’s top target in that regard. He performed well in a stout defensive display from the Spanish side against a normally potent Red Devils attack.

However, the Express states that Real Madrid stalwart Raphael Varane is still a strong option.

The 28-year-old looks increasingly likely to follow boss Zinedine Zidane out of the Bernabeu this summer.

His arrival would give United a proven world-class talent alongside Maguire and solidify the spine of the team.

Cristiano Ronaldo

As mentioned in Thursday’s Paper Talk, the United legend could also be on his way back to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo’s time at Juventus looks to run its course following the 36-year-old’s recent comments about his future.

The Portugal skipper spent six seasons with United, scoring 118 goals in 292 appearances for the club before heading to Real Madrid in an £80m deal in 2009.

His potential arrival would present a problem, however. Ronaldo is at his best playing in the role currently being occupied by Marcus Rashford.

That would not bother United fans though. There is no doubt they would live to see Ronaldo back in the red of United.
