Neymar or Grealish? Pundit makes bold statement over ‘absolutely useless’ star

Neymar TEAMtalk

Aston Villa fans would not swap Jack Grealish for Neymar, according to talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein.

In fact, according to Goldstein, not too many top Premier League teams would.

The radio presenter branded the world’s most expensive player “absolutely useless” during Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in their UEFA Champions League opener earlier this week.

Grealish has been in scintillating form this season for Villa with four goals and three assists in all competitions. The academy product recently made his full debut in England’s 3-0 win over Wales and was awarded man of the match for his performance.

Much to the bemusement of most, ‘Super Jack’ was left unused by England boss Gareth Southgate in their UEFA Nations League defeat to Denmark.

The Birmingham-born winger was back on the pitch for his club on Monday and helped them make their best start to a top-flight season in 90 years with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Leicester City.

After admitting it was 50/50 as to whether he would stay at his boyhood team with Manchester United sniffing around, Grealish ended rumours of a switch to the north west by putting pen to paper on a new five-year-deal in the summer.

Assessing the attacking options for Premier League’s ‘Big Six’, Goldstein went one further by claiming Villa fans would choose Grealish over the ex-Barcelona ace.

“I’ve done many a show with Jason Cundy who has poo-pooed Neymar, and I always thought he was being a bit harsh,” Goldstein said on talkSPORT.

“But, in a big game and a big chance for him to prove himself against Man United, he was useless.

“Absolutely useless!

“I keep sticking up for Neymar because I know there’s something there, but I’m still waiting to see him grab a game by the throat and do something.

“Then I was thinking about all the sides in the Premier League that play with a player like that on the left-wing, and I don’t think there are too many that would swap their player on that left side for Neymar. I’m serious!

Neymar swap?

Jack Grealish England TEAMtalk

“Would Liverpool swap Sadio Mane for Neymar? No!

“Would Man City Raheem Sterling for him? No, it wouldn’t happen.

“Would Arsenal rather have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Neymar?

“I’m telling you now, Spurs fans would rather keep Heung-min Son than swap him for Neymar.

“Manchester United would rather keep Marcus Rashford; for what he offers the team for 90 minutes every single game, I’d have Rashford over Neymar.

“And Chelsea fans? They’d probably rather keep Christian Pulisic.

“And I’ll throw this one out there as well: I guarantee you, guarantee you, every Aston Villa fan would rather have Jack Grealish than Neymar in that side.

“And I’ll tell you why, because Aston Villa will get everything from Jack Grealish. If you’re 2-0 down and you’ve got Neymar in your side, he’s gone missing.”

Neymar, who had previously been linked with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea, has won eight major trophies in France and lifted Europe’s most prestigious trophy in 2014/15 with Barcelona alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

The 28-year-old is the second-highest scorer for his nation with 66 goals and trails only three-time FIFA World Cup winner Pele, who netted 77 times.
