Jamie Carragher believes Jack Grealish and Wilfried Zaha will stay where they are and are not quite good enough to play for either Liverpool or Manchester City.

Aston Villa midfielder Grealish and Crystal Palace star Zaha are the marquee players at their respective clubs. Both been linked with a move away in recent years.

Grealish, 25, recently signed a new five-year deal at Villa Park. He made his England debut in the goalless draw with Denmark on September 8.

Zaha, 27, has hit the ground running this season and already has three goals from two Premier League outings.

The pair have previously been mentioned as targets for champions Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp is determined to see the Reds will not rest on their laurels. As such, Klopp has brought in midfielder Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich and Wolves’ forward Diogo Jota. It appears Liverpool could further add to their squad too before the transfer window closes.

The duo have been mentioned in connection with the Reds while Pep Guardiola’s City are also an option.

But Anfield legend Carragher is adamant that neither player is a right fit. The pundit also thinks for the prices being quoted, there are better options out there.

“I think Jack [Grealish] is in a position similar to [Wilfried] Zaha at Palace. The type of money to get him out of the club you are talking £60 or £70million,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“I don’t think they are quite good enough to play for Liverpool or Manchester City. Teams just below the top four, I don’t think they’d want to pay the money to get them.”

Liverpool’s attacking ranks were already the envy of most European clubs, even before Jota’s arrival. As such, it’s highly either Grealish or Zaha would see too much action under Klopp.

Jota credentials talked up by Lijnders

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota

It is now Jota’s task to try and muscle in on the action at Liverpool. His 16 goals from 67 league appearances for the Molineux men certainly catches the eye. At 23, he’s at the right age to further improve under Klopp.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will be hard to budge. But the Premier League champions will not lose much with Jota on the pitch.

The Portugal international will act as back-up initially. However, assistant manager Pep Lijnders feels the £41m man has what it takes to start knocking on the door.
