Greer dreaming of France

The Brighton defender is hoping to start Friday night’s Sky Live friendly with Qatar at Easter Road and book place in the line-up that faces the Republic of Ireland in next week’s crucial European qualifier in Dublin.

Victory at the Aviva stadium would move the Scots five points ahead of their Group D rivals and virtually kill off the hosts’ qualification hopes.

The Scots are currently a point behind group leaders Poland and level with Germany and Greer knows the importance of each of Scotland’s remaining five qualifiers as they look to book a slot at next year’s finals in France.

He said: “Of course I’m dreaming about the Euros, that is why you all play football as a young player. To represent your country and get to a major tournament would be fantastic.

“We’re not going down that road too far but when I was growing up I did dream about playing for Scotland at a major tournament. However, as you get older and you’re involved in it you just take each games as it comes.

“It’s an important game coming up. At this stage it is about the performance and we’ll be giving everything to get the right result. It’s important that there is an end-game to qualify for the Euros. But we are just focusing on the games in between. Hopefully if we put on good performances
we’re there.

“You don’t want to look too far ahead. The squad changes from time to time. At the moment we are involved for these two games, hopefully we can get a chance to play, put on a good performance and then the manager will give us more opportunities.”

Don’t miss a kick of Scotland’s international match against Qatar on Friday June 5. The build-up from Easter Road starts on Sky Sports 5HD from 7.30pm
