Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola told his players that they had “killed” Manchester United after beating them last season, it has been revealed.

City beat their rivals 2-1 at Old Trafford before the turn of the year thanks to goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi.

The pair cancelled out Marcus Rashford’s first-half stoppage-time equaliser to send Guardiola’s side on to a crucial victory, which put them 11 points ahead of United just 16 games into the campaign.

After the match, Guardiola declared that “only Manchester City can lose the Premier League right now”.

In scenes shown by upcoming Amazon Prime fly-on-the-wall documentary All or Nothing, Guardiola rallies his players after the match with a rousing speech.

“You killed them while playing football,” Guardiola said. “And even in the bad moments you were there, guys. You were outstanding.

“We travelled there to our neighbours and showed what we are. And you did it, guys, that’s why you deserve all my respect.

“It’s all in our hands. Only Manchester City can lose the Premier League right now.”
