Pep Guardiola says he is confident that Eric Garcia will stay at Manchester City despite Barcelona’s reported interest in the defender.
Garcia moved to the Etihad from Barca’s academy back in 2017. He has since progressed through City’s youth ranks and racked up 17 first team appearances.
14 of those games have come this season, with the young Spaniard most recently featuring in City’s shock 1-0 loss to Southampton.
Having seen his progression from afar, his former club are now said to be interested in taking Garcia back to the Camp Nou.
Reports in Spain claim a return to Barcelona would be of interest to Garcia, while some have even suggested he has already agreed personal terms with the Catalan giants.
He said: “I don’t have any updates. He has one more year on his contract, if Barcelona want him they must call him.
“We are going to try convince him to stay here for many, many, many years.
“Yeah, I am confident he will stay, but in the end it is his decision. He knows we want him, but it was the same with Leroy [Sane].
“We want him, but he doesn’t want to stay, we cannot do anything else.
“He knows, his agent knows, his family knows that we want him. If Barcelona want him, they have to call Txiki [Begiristain].”
DE BRUYNE COULD CHASE NEW DEAL
In other news, Kevin De Bruyne will look to sign an improved deal with City if their European ban is upheld.
City will find out on the 13th July if their appeal has been successful. If it is not, then De Bruyne will be hit by a €3.5m loss in bonuses with City excluded from Europe’s top competition.
Therefore, it is claimed the Belgian wants to agree on new terms as a form of compensation.
