Guardiola eyeing shock move for Bayern forward in Sane swap deal

Pep Guardiola Manchester City TEAMtalk

Manchester City are interested in signing Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry and may use Leroy Sane to secure the deal, according to reports.

Bayern forward Gnabry has been a key player for the Bundesliga outfit this season, scoring 14 goals and setting up eight in 28 appearances, with one of his best performances coming when he bagged four goals against Tottenham in the Champions League.

According to The Sun, Pep Guardiola has personally watched Gnabry on several occasions this season and also has sent scouts to keep tabs on the ex-Arsenal man.

The Manchester City boss is reportedly looking for a long-term replacement for Sane, who has been a target of Bayern since last summer, and has identified Gnabry as the ideal recruit.

It was reported that Sane missed out on a £20.8million-a-year contract at Bayern following the knee injury he sustained in the Community Shield against Liverpool in August.

Sane’s current contract at the Etihad is set to expire June 2021 but the Germany international has often found it hard to maintain a regular spot in Guardiola’s starting side.

City are desperate for the forward to sign a new contract, but with time winding down on his contract and no clear sign of any breakthrough in contract talks between Sane and City, it is becoming increasingly likely that the 24-year-old will depart in the summer.

However, a big problem for any potential swap deal involving Gnarby is City’s recent two-year Champions League ban handed out by UEFA for breaching financial fair play rules.

But according to sources close to Manchester City, Pep wants to bolster his attacking options and a number of players have already been mentioned.
