Pep Guardiola has taken a bizarre swipe at the Premier League after Manchester City lost 2-0 at Tottenham on Sunday.
The defeat to Spurs was their sixth defeat of the season and the first time in 24 matches they have failed to score away from The Etihad.
The result means leaders Liverpool are now 22 points clear of Guardiola’s men with 13 matches of the campaign to go.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have opened up an extraordinary lead, especially when you consider the two teams were only a point apart last term, as City pipped Liverpool to the title.
And after Man City lost to Jose Mourinho’s men on Sunday, Guardiola told reporters how the Premier League had planned on having a new champion this season.
Guardiola said: “Two seasons ago there was the owner of the Premier League who said that could not happen again, it’s not good for the Premier League for City to win the title in that way, with 100 points.
“Now it’s Liverpool, you have to be concerned if you are the owner of the Premier League.”
Meanwhile, Guardiola denied that an angry reaction to his players was the reason for his delayed interview after City’s loss to Tottenham.
Guardiola took an unusually long time to appear to the media after the game, opting instead to remain in the dressing room, but when he finally emerged, he denied there was any hidden reason for his absence.
“We played well but lost the game,” he told Sky Sports. “It happened again. They had two shots and scored two goals.
“I don’t have too many things to say about the performance. We have to accept it and analyse it. It is not easy. We did really well, honestly.” Read more…
