Guardiola reveals why Liverpool have had it easy in epic title race

Pep Guardiola believes that “the media” have wanted Liverpool to be crowned Premier League champions all along.

Manchester City took a huge leap towards defending their title after Vincent Kompany’s wonder strike gave them a nervy 1-0 win over Leicester on Monday night.

And City know that a win at Brighton on Sunday will be enough to see off Liverpool’s mighty challenge.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have gone toe-to-toe with City all season and could end the campaign with 97 points and no trophy to lift, while Guardiola feels that many want the Anfield club to pip them to the post.

“Liverpool play without pressure because they know it is not in their hands. It is easy,” he told talkSPORT. “We have the pressure.

“People in the media desire Liverpool to win the title,” the Spaniard added.

“So I am sorry for the people that it’s in our hands. But 195 points in two seasons, it is something unique.

“One game left and we’ll try. It is now 95 points and we need one more victory. We’ll go to Brighton trying. I don’t have to say anything to the players because they are mature.

“Brighton will be tough. They went to Arsenal and got a result. We played them in the FA Cup and that was tough because they are strong, have the set pieces, and I know they’re playing for pride.

“But it’s in our hands. We were seven points behind and never gave up. We won 13 games in a row and that’s why we are in that position.

“Tonight was an incredible performance. Incredible. I’m sorry but it was so good. We are controlling the games. It’s not over yet though. There is happiness of course because we knew it how difficult Leicester would be.’

“We were seven points behind Liverpool, we could have been 10 points had Liverpool beaten us here, but we never give up and have won 13 games in a row.”
