Guardiola urges Man City to beat Man Utd to signing of €60m star
Pep Guardiola has urged Manchester City to beat Manchester United to the signing of a highly-rated La Liga midfielder, according to report in Spain.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claim that Guardiola has recommended Carlos Soler to the City board as a possible summer signing and would have no hesitation endorsing the payment of his €60million release clause.
The report states that Valencia would, however, fight tooth and nail to part with the 21-year-old, who has been an important part of their revival this season under coach Marcelino.
Guardiola apparently believes that Soler would settle straight into City’s first team, and given the fees paid for players under his tenure so far, the reported €60m asking price will not be a huge obstacle.
Reports in January suggested that Jose Mourinho is also keen on signing the Spaniard and it’s believed the Manchester United boss could yet come in for the player again when the summer window reopens.
With Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick set for summer departures, the Portuguese boss is eyeing Soler and Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl, according to the Independent.
