Guttridge seals Shots victory

Luke Guttridge scored the only goal to hand Aldershot their first league win since the start of November against in-form Shrewsbury.

After a quiet opening the first chance of the game went to the hosts as Aaron Morris’ dangerous volley stung the gloves of Chris Neal.

Danny Hylton was a constant threat for the home side but it was Shrews who had the next good opening, home goalkeeper Jamie Young equal to Nicky Wroe’s 25th-minute effort.

Shrewsbury carved out the clearest opening of the half but Mark Wright ballooned over after a clever knockdown by former Shots striker Marvin Morgan, before Aldershot’s Adam Smith watched his cross hit the woodwork with the last kick of the half.

Aldershot started the second 45 minutes at a higher tempo, Alex Rodman testing Neal with a curling free-kick. And they were rewarded after 67 minutes when a corner fell to Hylton inside the six-yard box, who in turn set up Guttridge barely a yard out for surely the easiest goal he will ever score.

Shrewsbury pushed but Shots looked dangerous on the break and Guttridge almost claimed a second with an excellent volley which drifted just over.
