Owen Hargreaves believes that Manchester United are destined for big things, as their front three of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood continue to thrive.
United’s front three have hit the net 55 times between them this season, and have in fact outscored Liverpool’s revered front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino this season.
The title winners’ trio have managed 51 goals this season, but former United midfielder Hargreaves says the fact United’s forward trio have scored more and they are considerably younger makes for “exciting times”.
Martial, 24, and Rashford, 22, have both scored 20, while Bradford-born Greenwood, 18, has hit the net 15 times, including a brace in the 5-2 win over Bournemouth.
Hargreaves told Premier League Productions: “Everyone speaks about the best front three in the Premier League in Salah, Mane and Firmino – they are. They have proven it – 51 goals between them.
“But Martial, Rashford, Greenwood – all in their teens or early 20s – have scored more than that Liverpool front three.
“It’s not a competition but it shows you that these guys are ready to take the mantle.
“With [Paul] Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in behind, wow! What a group of players that front five is. It’s exciting times for Manchester United.”
Rashford said he also believed the future was “exciting” after all three scored in the win over the Cherries.
While Ole Gunnar Solskajer said: “They are on the same team and working towards one common goal.
“That is one of the positive things about the forwards they are good friends and keep challenging each other.”
Bayern Munich trio on 83 goals
He told BT Sport: “The lads enjoyed it today. Definitely exciting times. It doesn’t matter who scores as long as we are scoring and picking up points in the table.
“It is always positive for teams if their forwards are scoring. It is important now to push on until the end of the season.”
However, United’s trio are some way off Bayern Munich’s top three scorers’ total of 83 – Robert Lewandowski (51), Serge Gnabry (20) and Thomas Muller (12).
While, Paris St-Germain’s main three goalscorers are on 68 (Kylian Mbappe 30, Mauro Icardi 20, Neymar 18).
And neighbiurs Manchester City’s top three have 64 – although Gabriel Jesus (18) rarely starts with Sergio Aguero (23) and Raheem Sterling (23).
