Kane urged to swap Spurs for Man Utd; transfer similarities highlighted

Harry Kane, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer TEAMtalk

Ex-Man Utd and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has identified the main problem should Harry Kane remain at Spurs, and has drawn comparisons with his own and Christian Eriksen’s exits from North London.

Kane has blossomed into becoming one of the most lethal centre-forwards in world football since his breakthrough season in 2014.

Notching an incredible 181 goals in 278 appearances for his boyhood club, many Spurs fans hold the belief that England’s number nine will remain on the books of the club for the entirety of his playing career.

However, despite Kane’s best efforts and a handful of near misses, Tottenham have failed to lift silverware for over a decade.

Rumours of a switch to Man Utd have begun to swirl over the past few months, with the Red Devils’ knack for lifting trophies cited as a potential lure for Kane.

Former Spurs frontman Berbatov faced a similar conundrum in 2008, with the Bulgarian eventually opting to join Man Utd for a fee just north of the £30m mark.

His four years at Old Trafford produced six trophies, and Berbatov has offered some advice to Kane regarding making a transfer decision with his head rather than his heart.

“The final step for me was joining Manchester United and I knew I would be making people disappointed – especially Tottenham fans – but I was following my own path,” Berbatov told the Football Daily podcast (via the Metro).

“I knew if I missed that chance another one might not come. This is how it is in football. Sometimes you need to make tough decisions.

“The same situation is happening with Harry Kane at the moment, the exact same.

“He’s in the same situation as I was in as he has started asking questions and maybe his head is not in the right place. My head was not in the right place.

“It was the same with [Christian] Eriksen. He wasn’t really there in the last couple of games. I watched the games and I saw that his head was not there.

“Kane is in the same situation. If there is any truth in the rumours, it’s in his head, 100 per cent.

“The lack of trophies is the main problem for players like Kane. He’s not getting any younger. He wants to look back and know he won trophies.

“When I see Spurs play United now, even if on paper Spurs have better players, they still go there with fear.”

Meanwhile, Man Utd have taken a stand in their ongoing pursuit of England forward Jadon Sancho, with their stance over smashing their transfer record being outlined in the process.
