Harry Kane: Man Utd target rules move to top European suitor out as squeeze is put on Tottenham chief Levy
The future of Tottenham striker Harry Kane has taken a turn with one of the clubs in contention for his signature now ruled out the race – to increase Manchester United’s prospects of his transfer.
The England captain finds himself at a major career crossroads with just a year left on his Spurs deal. While his form in front of goal shows no signs of abating, the performances of those around him in lilywhite continue to hold him back.
And with the north London club in a minor state of disarray on and the field, the prospects of losing Kane this summer appear to be growing.
Indeed, the 29-year-old striker finds himself very much a man in demand. To that end, claims of a move to Real Madrid are gathering pace this week following news that Karim Benzema will leave the Bernabeu after 14 seasons. Carlo Ancelotti will need a new figurehead to lead the line and Kane very much fits the bill.
There is interest from Manchester United too. Erik ten Hag is also in the market for a new No 9 to lead what he hopes will be another progressive season at Old Trafford.
However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is opposed to selling to the Red Devils and would prefer to move him overseas. To that end, a report on Friday claimed Levy had named his price and his preferred buyer if forced to sell Tottenham’s No 10.
But having never won a trophy during his career, Kane knows a move to either will surely enhance those chances.
There is, however, a third suitor lurking too in the form of Bayern Munich.
Harry Kane rules out move to Bayern future
The Bundesliga champions are long-time admirers of Kane. Indeed, they earmarked him as a possible signing last summer upon Robert Lewansdowski’s exit.
Indeed, they are expected to go back in for him this summer with coach Thomas Tuchel an admirer.
However, Bild reporter Christian Falk says Kane has now crossed Bayern off his list of potential destinations.
“Harry Kane is said to have finally ruled out FC Bayern as a transfer destination. He was [sporting director, Hasan] Salihamidzic’s dream player,” Falk informed CaughtOffside.
“Tuchel would have liked to bring him to Chelsea. At Bayern, however, he had concerns over Kane’s age and any potential problems that may arise when transitioning to the Bundesliga.
“Especially given that Bayern experienced this already with Sadio Mané.”
Bayern, though, are looking to sign a new centre forward this summer. And they could fund a move by offloading Leroy Sane and Mane, both are whom are up for sale.
However, with Kane seemingly off their radar, and the player himself also no longer seeing them as an option, they do have two other targets in mind.
Kane verdict puts the squeeze on Levy
And per reports the Bundesliga champions will consider moves instead for either Dusan Vlahovic or Randal Kolo Muani.
The race to sign Kane, meanwhile, now seemingly looks to be down to two clubs: Real or Man Utd.
That will put the squeeze on Levy with the striker reportedly open to a move elsewhere. He will not want to rock the boat at Tottenham, or damage his reputation among fans. But a refusal to sign an extension will leave Levy with a tough decision to make. Indeed, he must either sell him this summer for the best possible price, or risk losing him on a free in 2024.
If he takes the first option, United’s chances may well be on the rise as a result.
With 296 goals from 500 appearances, whoever lands Kane will be signing a striker in his absolute prime.
