Harry Kane transfer: Man Utd chances revealed as Fabrizio Romano names two other Ten Hag targets
Manchester United appear unlikely to get embroiled in a Harry Kane bidding war after Bayern Munich saw an opening offer rejected for the Tottenham striker earlier this week – but do have two other targets in mind.
The future of the England captain is very much in the news with a move away from Spurs now increasingly likely. The 29-year-old striker has just 12 months to run on his Tottenham contract and he appears unlikely to pen an extension in N7. With the club not even offering European football, let alone fulfilling his wish to get his hands on silverware, there are few out there who blame him wanting out.
As a result, the scramble to secure Kane’s signature is beginning to heat up. He has long-standing links to four clubs, with Manchester United, Real Madrid and PSG among his leading suitors.
However, it is another long-term suitor in Bayern Munich who have first thrown down the gauntlet. Their opening offer of €70m plus add-ons was instantly rejected by chairman Daniel Levy, who seemingly has a much loftier price in mind.
To that end, Levy is reportedly determined to hold out for nearer the €100m mark if he is to part ways with his talisman. And while the striker turns 30 this summer, Levy reportedly feels Kane is very much worth every penny.
Bayern are reportedly unperturbed by seeing their first bid knocked back. Thomas Tuchel is a massive fan of the player and clearly wants him part of his project.
Waiting in the wings, however, are both PSG and United, with both seemingly biding their time before moving.
Harry Kane transfer: Levy ready to play hardball
To that end, the striker has reportedly made clear which club he wants to join this summer.
However, despite Bayern’s plan to make a fresh move, it seems United are not willing to get involved.
Per the reliable Fabrizio Romano, United are instead looking into signing two other alternatives.
That comes amid claims that the Red Devils hierarchy are adamant Levy will simply refuse to sell Kane to them.
Discussing the latest, Romano provided an update to Caught Offside.
“Crucial days are ahead for the future of Harry Kane,” the Italian reporter said. “Bayern Munich have had an opening official offer rejected. They submitted a bid of €70m plus add-ons but Tottenham immediately said no – they were never going to accept that kind of fee for Kane.
“Bayern have been fans for a long time, and Thomas Tuchel is pushing for them to bid again. He’d love to sign Kane as part of his project.
“On the player side, Kane is open to Bayern move, that’s why they sent an opening bid … It’s crucial to understand Tottenham’s position as they insist to keep the player.
“I’ve always made it clear, whether Kane was being linked with Manchester United, Real Madrid, or anyone else, that Daniel Levy wants to keep the player and is never easy to negotiate with.
“Levy still dreams of Kane being at the club for the long term and so he’ll try everything he can to keep him.”
Man Utd chasing two other strikers
That sheer determination of Levy to keep Kane is probably the major thing dissuading United from making their move.
Thankfully, manager Erik ten Hag does have other irons in the fire, with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic, Rasmus Hojlund and Randal Kolo Muani also reportedly on their radar.
Discussing which striker United may move for, Romano shed light on the situation.
“Nothing is currently imminent with some of the other big-name strikers who could be on the market this summer.
“Dusan Vlahovic’s future will depend on Juventus plans and new director Cristiano Giuntoli who’s set to join the club. For Victor Osimhen, I still see PSG as favourites but there has still been no official bid sent to Napoli. He also remains on Bayern’s list.
“Randal Kolo Muani has also been linked with Bayern in the past. But he is also appreciated by Manchester United, as is Rasmus Hojlund.”
Indeed, United would surely find deals for either far easier to reach. To that end, the Atalanta striker is likely to cost around the £50m mark – much more within their budget.
