Harry Kane transfer: New European giants burst into frame for Tottenham star after Man Utd, Real Madrid cool interest

Harry Kane, Tottenham, April 2023

There has been a new twist in the transfer saga surrounding Tottenham forward Harry Kane, with one of Europe’s biggest teams becoming involved after Manchester United and Real Madrid opted to pursue other players.

Kane’s future at Tottenham is uncertain due to a couple of factors. First of all, his contract with the club expires in June 2024. If he refuses to pen an extension, then this will force Tottenham to either sell him this summer or watch him leave on a free transfer in a year’s time.

Secondly, Tottenham actually seem to be getting further away from winning a trophy, rather than getting closer to some silverware. In the 2022-23 campaign, they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fifth round and the Carabao Cup in the third round.

Plus, they were dumped out of the Champions League in the last 16 and could only manage an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League, which means they will not be featuring in any form of European competition next term.

Kane is determined to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record, which stands at 260 goals. However, the England captain is also eager to finally end his long wait for a trophy.

Earlier this year, Man Utd decided on him as their ideal next striker. Madrid then entered the race as Carlo Ancelotti set his sights on Kane to replace Karim Benzema, who has joined Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad.

But Man Utd soon cooled their interest in Kane after finding out Spurs would demand £100million for their star man, despite his contract running down and the fact he will turn 30 in July. And Madrid have followed their lead, leaving Kane short of options.

But the player’s trophy aspirations are not completely dead in the water. As per French source Le Parisien, French champions Paris Saint-Germain have begun targeting Kane.

Harry Kane wanted by new club

He could head to France as Kylian Mbappe’s replacement. Mbappe has publicly revealed he will not be extending his PSG contract beyond 2024, setting up a potential move to Madrid this summer.

PSG have lost fellow superstar Lionel Messi too, as the Argentine is set to join MLS team Inter Miami. PSG sporting adviser Luis Campos is hopeful of signing Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva to replace Messi.

The report explains how PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is ‘pushing’ for Kane to join. Although, it does not reveal whether the club chief has been in contact with Spurs or Kane’s agent.

PSG are one of the few clubs in world football who have the finances to buy Kane without getting themselves into serious debt. So his £100m price tag should not be an issue.

It must be noted that Luis Enrique is the new frontrunner to replace manager Christophe Galtier following positive talks with the PSG hierarchy.

It is unclear whether Kane is on Enrique’s transfer wish list or not. But that will not stop Al-Khelaifi as he is determined to make England’s all-time record scorer PSG’s latest big-name attacker.

Kane would have the opportunity to win pretty much every domestic trophy in France if he went to PSG as the capital club are always in the mix for those pieces of silverware.

But whether Kane would be able to take PSG to their first Champions League triumph remains to be seen. Even with Messi, Mbappe and Neymar up front, they have failed to win it in the past two seasons.

Meanwhile, Spurs will attempt to sign a Lyon midfielder who is considered perfect for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play, according to a report.
