Harry Kane has made it clear he wants to join Manchester United this summer, with a report listing two reasons why the striker is ready to move on from Tottenham.
Kane has endured a difficult season, having been sidelined since New Years’ Day with a torn hamstring tendon and seen Mauricio Pochettino, whom he had a strong working relationship, replaced at the helm by Jose Mourinho.
But with Spurs crashing out the FA Cup on Wednesday night and their fans showing alarming at the brand of football being played, reports have indicated that the England captain would consider leaving North London in the summer if Spurs – currently five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea – fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
And according to Goal, Kane is very much determined to move on this summer, with Manchester United mentioned as his preferred destination.
It’s suggested Kane believes Tottenham, under Mourinho’s leadership, can no longer challenge for the game’s top prizes and it’s claimed he believes he can under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United.
It’s claimed Kane believes Solskjaer can turn United into serious contenders again and also believes they have a far better crack at winning the Premier League under the Norwegian than he would at Spurs.
Furthermore, it’s claimed Kane still harbours regrets at Tottenham’s Champions League final failure and wants to get the chance to claim a winners’ medal – something the report also claims he feels he has more chance of achieving at United.
Kane, however, has revealed that he is closing in on a return to action following his injury.
The striker said: “In my head, I am definitely at the Euros.
“Unless something pretty drastic happens between now and then, I’ll be there. I’m still not back training with the first team, but I’m working hard in the gym, I’m getting stronger all the time.
“We’re talking a few more weeks, and I’ll be playing again. I don’t want to make a prediction for which game I might be back, but I am hoping somewhere between the start and the middle of April.”
Pundit claims Kane must leave Tottenham
Meanwhile, football pundit Alejandro Moreno reckons the striker must leave north London to fulfil his true potential.
“I’m just going to tell you from the perspective on the outside looking in,” Moreno told ESPN FC.
“Not [from a] Spurs fan, not a hardcore Spurs guy who wants Harry Kane to stay there for life, I’m just thinking about I’m seeing who this player is and who this player can be in a different setting.
“And I’m saying it would be best for Harry Kane to fully maximise his potential as a player, to fully maximise his potential not only on the field but his presence worldwide to go elsewhere. That’s all I’m saying.
“Now, does that mean he is leaving Spurs? Probably not because it’s a guy that seems to be very comfortable there and very cosy and cuddly.
“That’s fine, and a player who’s comfortable and cosy and cuddly usually delivers out on the field because there is a joy and happiness that comes with that.
“I’m just merely suggesting that there could be offers out for them and teams that could put his profile at a different level.”
United are expected to spend big this summer with the likes of Jack Grealish also in their sights and amid claims talks are already underway for the midfielder.
