Harry Kane told two massive reasons why he must snub Man Utd for Real Madrid as Tottenham exit talk accelerates
‘Tottenham legend’ Harry Kane must go to Real Madrid next and in doing so reject a move to Manchester United, according to a former England international.
Kane will soon enter the final 12 months of his Tottenham contract. Up to this point, club chairman Daniel Levy has rejected all offers for his star man, even telling Manchester City to pay as much as £150million for him in summer 2021.
But Levy must consider selling the striker ahead of next season or risk losing him on a free transfer in summer 2024.
Man Utd are monitoring the situation and could swoop in with a huge bid for Kane. Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is a big fan of Kane and would love to create a devastating attack involving both the England skipper and Marcus Rashford.
However, Man Utd will face competition from Real Madrid for Kane. Carlo Ancelotti has recently told Madrid chiefs he wants Kane to replace Karim Benzema up front. That comes after Benzema decided against renewing his contract with Madrid, with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad now imminent.
It looks like there will be a straight fight between Man Utd and Madrid for Kane’s signature. The lethal attacker has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern in recent months, although those two European giants are thought to be pursuing different goalscorers now.

Darren Bent, who made 12 appearances for England between 2006 and 2011, has given his verdict on the situation. During an appearance on talkSPORT, the pundit told Kane to join Madrid over Man Utd as he has already made himself a Spurs icon, which means he does not need to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record.
Bent added that the legacy Madrid can offer a player is too good to turn down, citing some world-class examples.
Harry Kane should leave Alan Shearer record – pundit
“[If I was him] I’m going to Real Madrid,” Bent declared. “That pull of of the [Alan] Shearer record is something I never thought I’d see anyone beat. And he’s just been chipping away at it and he’s not that far away now.
“But the expectation, [the] opportunity to go and play for someone like Real Madrid, I don’t think you can turn that down. I get it, you want to break records. [But] you’re already Spurs’ all-time top goalscorer, your legacy at that football club is set in stone.
“I think he’s a Premier League legend, that’s set in stone, no one can take that away from you.
“But to go to Real Madrid… you look at some of the players we’ve seen [go there]. We saw [Cristiano] Ronaldo in his pomp go to Real Madrid, Luka Modric left the very same club to go to Real Madrid. He’s turned into one of the greatest players ever.
“We’ve seen [Gareth] Bale turn himself into an absolute icon by going to Real Madrid. I think Spurs fans would probably prefer him to go to Real Madrid [than Man Utd].”
Bent is not the only former player to give his opinion on Kane’s potential switch to the Spanish capital. Los Blancos legend Sergio Ramos has told the 29-year-old he has to take up this opportunity. Ramos added that Kane clearly has the physical and technical attributes needed to shine in a Madrid shirt.
Kane is clearly facing a massive decision. If he goes to Man Utd, he will have a decent chance of winning trophies, although Ten Hag’s side are slightly behind Europe’s absolute elite currently. However, such a move would allow Kane to continue chasing Shearer’s Prem scoring record.
If Kane heads to Madrid, then he would have to give up on the Shearer hunt. But he would be pretty much guaranteed at least one La Liga title or Champions League trophy given how successful Madrid have been in recent years.
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has slammed Man Utd over their decision to sell five players who were important to the club.
