Havertz to snub Man Utd, Chelsea but ‘dream’ move hits major snag

Kai Havertz TEAMtalk

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz’s dream move is to Real Madrid but the Bundesiga side have turned down an initial offer from the Spanish giants, according to a report.

Havertz is one of Europe’s most sought-after young players following his form in the German top flight this season.

Indeed, his recent form – five goals in five games – has particularly caught the eye given that the Bundesliga was the first major European league to resume.

Reports claim Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on bringing the 20-year-old to the Premier League.

SPORTbild journalist Christian Falk said last week that both are viable options for the Germany international.

Another report says Bayern Munich are in pole position, but according to Sportbuzzer, that is not the case.

The source says Havertz will move to Spain and that Real are the prime candidates for his signature.

Indeed, they have submitted their first offer which Leverkusen rejected after it was “far from” their €100million (£89million) minimum valuation.

As such, Real intend to offload two players to sweeten the deal, a proposition frowned upon by Leverkusen.

In any case, Havertz has reportedly made clear that he is keen to move to Madrid and wants to engineer a move away from Germany.

Despite his tender age, the midfielder has already racked up over 140 appearances for Leverkusen.

His side, chasing a place in next season’s Champions League, sit in fifth.

Responding to the speculation, Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro says he will find a “solution” to Havertz’s future.

Carro said: “I can see that many clubs are interested in him.

“Kai has been with us for 10 years. I see the wish of the player to take his next step sometime in the near future, which you have to respect, just as you have to respect the fact that he has a contract with us until 2022.

“You have to try to find a solution where the player’s goal can be reconciled with ours. At the moment nobody can say for sure what will happen.”
