Thierry Henry gives massive thumbs up to goal-every-other-game Arsenal striker target

Thierry Henry has given a positive review of Arsenal target Odsonne Edouard as reports over a potential move continue to emerge.

The Gunners are believed to be in the market for a front man ahead of next season with Mikel Arteta looking to make the squad his own.

What’s more, both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette could be on their way out of the Emirates, meaning the North London club could be in need of reinforcements should both of their senior forwards depart.

Arkadiusz Milik, Raul Jiminez and Donyell Malen are just some of the forwards to have been linked, but it’s Celtic’s Edouard who appears to be the top target as things stand.

The 22-year-old has been in red hot form for the Scottish champions in 2019/20, scoring 27 goals and providing 19 assists in 45 games across all competitions, while his overral record stands at 62 goals in 126 appearances for the Bhoys, marginally short of a goal every other game.

He is also the Scottish Premiership’s leading goalscorer this term with 22, nine ahead of Rangers’ Jermain Defoe who is second in the charts.

And Arsenal have been given further encouragement to complete a deal for the Kourou-born player after the club’s all time leading scorer Henry gave his seal approval to the deal.

According to a report on football.london, the Frenchman spoke to Ally McCoist about Edouard and was full of praise in his assessment.

They quote McCoist as saying: “I spoke to Thierry Henry at the Liverpool vs Leicester City game and he really rates Edouard.

“He was saying in France in particular [Edouard is admired] and he personally really, really thinks he’s got a chance of going right to the top.”

Edouard has 64 goals in his professional career so far, and at only 22-years-old, still has plenty of room for improvement meaning he could prove to be a smart piece of business by the Gunners should the move go ahead.

However, they will face competition for his signature with Manchester United thought to be holding an interest, while Tottenham, Leicester and Everton have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

It is believed that Celtic would be looking for around £30million for their star man, although they could ask for more with two years still to run on his current contract.

In other news, Mikel Arteta could look to his homeland for a new midfielder with Valencia’s Carlos Soler on their radar.
