Hodgson happy to wait on future

Hodgson’s current deal expires next summer and FA chief executive Martin Glenn said on Friday that England’s performance in France will determine whether his stay is extended, telling Sky Sports News HQ that “Roy understands that if we have a great Euros, that will set him up well.”

And Hodgson, whose side have won all six of their matches in qualification, says he is happy with the arrangement.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s always been Euro 2016 that’s the real focal point for me so I’m just happy to be here representing the FA,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.

“Whoever happens to be the manager going into the qualifying period for the next World Cup, I’m sure the team is going to be a good team and there’s going to be some good players to work with and hopefully the team will qualify.

“All that I have said is that we will discuss my future at a later date. We didn’t specify that that would be after the Euros but if that’s what the FA want to do, then I’m perfectly happy with that.

“I’m very pleased to be looking forward to the next year and hopefully a good European Championship in France.”
