Hot Heskey earns~Latics vital point

Steve Bruce’s Latics were stunned after six minutes at The JJB, where Aaron Lennon’s right-wing cross was tapped home by Berbatov from close range.

The hosts side were level on 12 minutes, though, when Kevin Kilbane’s cross was well controlled by Heskey, who swivelled and steered a low drive past Radek Cerny.

Berbatov had a penalty claim denied by referee Lee Probert, despite Mario Melchiot appearing to foul him in the box, and Michael Dawson’s header was cleared off the line by Ryan Taylor on 43.

After the break, Chris Kirkland denied Lennon’s point-blank shot on 46 but the hosts had the best chance to win the game on 60, when Marcus Bent broke clear but rattled a shot against the crossbar.
