Howe keen to strengthen Cherries squad

Howe confirmed the club have been working to try and secure deals as the Cherries prepare for their first season in the English top-flight.

Bournemouth have already signed six players this summer but Howe is keen to strengthen further, with Artur Boruc, Sylvain Distin, Tyrone Mings, Adam Federici, Joshua King and Filippo Costa all arriving at the newly-named Vitality Stadium.

Howe said: “We’re aware of what we want, we’re trying to get the right players for the right price and that’s a never-ending battle really.

“In terms of numbers I wouldn’t want to put a figure on it, it’s just trying to get the balance of the squad right, and I think we are short in a couple of areas, so that’s what we’re looking to put right.”

Howe insists he is relishing the prospect of competing with the top clubs on the pitch, despite the financial advantage held by the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

“We certainly don’t compete by financial routes, for us it’s about all the same principles that we’ve always worked towards,” he said.

“I don’t think money really comes into it for us, it’s about making sure we have a good culture within our team, a very high work ethic, players want to improve, we want to improve ourselves as well as staff, and then of course with our style of play mixed with that we’d like to think will be enough for us.

“It’s not rocket science. Bournemouth are not going to be able to compete with those top clubs but when you put 11 players on the pitch it’s not really about money.”
