Huddersfield Town have emerged as shock contenders in the race to sign Stoke City star Xherdan Shaqiri, a report claims.

According to The Guardian, the Swiss international is eyeing a summer move following Stoke’s relegation to the Championship and could be available in a cut-price deal.

As a result, Shaqiri has attracted the interest of Terriers’ boss David Wagner, who penned a new three-year deal on Wednesday to stay with the Yorkshire club until 2021.

Everton, Spurs, Liverpool, Southampton and West Ham have all previously been linked with a move for Shaqiri, who joined the Potters from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

The 26-year-old registered 15 goals and 15 assists in 92 appearances for Stoke, where he has been since 2015.

Widespread reports have suggested he could be available for just £12million this summer due to a relegation clause in his contract.
