Everton’s teenage midfielder Tom Davies has signed a new five-year contract with the Premier League club.

Liverpool-born Davies, 18, has agreed to stay with his hometown club until at least the end of June 2022.

Davies has established himself in the first team, following his debut as a substitute last April against a Southampton side then managed by current Everton boss Ronald Koeman.

He has made 17 appearances in all competitions and started 10 Premier League matches this season, an ever-present since impressing in the Boxing Day win over Leicester.

After signing his new contract, club Academy graduate Davies told evertonfc.com: “It means everything to me to get a chance to be in the Everton first team and to try to stay there.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling.

“Everton has a long tradition of bringing young players through, and the incentive has always been there for me to try to progress with the club.

“I hope young players in the Academy now can see how I have been able to progress and make my way to the Everton first team, just as Matty (Pennington), Callum (Connolly), Kieran (Dowell) and Jonjoe (Kenny) have also done.”

Koeman believes Davies is Everton’s most improved young player this season.

“We’re really happy with his performances and, of course, proud,” said the Dutchman.

“He’s a young player, and that’s important for the rest of the Academy – to show you can make that next step like Tom did and, if that ends with a new contract, it’s perfect.”
