Mesut Ozil: Could be moving north to Manchester

Arsenal talisman Mesut Ozil believes he is playing the best football of his career ahead of the midweek showdown with Olympiakos.

The 27-year-old Germany international was in good form again on Saturday as Arsenal defeated Sunderland 3-1 at The Emirates and he has now recorded 12 Premier League assists after laying on the first goal for Joel Campbell.

Ozil has now had a hand in 14 goals in his last 13 Premier League appearances and he is determined to help the Gunners past their Greek opponents in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

“This season is the strongest season I have ever played. I am in a good way, playing really well. I believe in myself,” said Ozil.

“It will be very hard,” said Ozil, who is in his third season at The Emirates. “Olympiakos can play good football – we saw that in the first match. They want to play on the counter-attack but we can’t concede goals like we did again.

“The fans will be right behind them and our goal is to beat them. It is achievable to go there and win by two goals. We really have to give everything so that we can achieve this and get through to the next round. “

Wenger will be without Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Danny Welbeck, but the Gunners must win by two clear goals – or by 4-3 in Athens if they are to reach the knockout stages of the tournament for a 16th season running.

“We have the quality to beat them and our goal is not to even think about going out of the competition.

“We have to be good in defence. If they score a goal then we have to score three goals, although we know that we can score goals, “ he said. “We know that we have a lot of quality up front. The aim is to go in ahead at half-time and then we will know everything is possible.

“If we score an early goal, I am confident we can win this game and go through. I hope I can help the team with a good performance on the night.”
