Arsenal have shown “strong interest” in securing a deal for exciting Swedish striker Emil Roback, according to his club’s sporting director.
The 16-year-old, who plays for Hammarby Under-17s, is yet to break through to the senior team but he has an impressive international record, having scored three goals in three appearances for Sweden’s Under-16s team.
Roback then made the step up to his country’s Under-17s side, where he has one goal in four outings.
Asked about Bayern’s interest, Jansson said: “We were contacted and know about the interest.
“He has also been to Arsenal,” he added. “There’s a strong interest and there are more clubs as well.”
Speaking about why Roback is attracting interest from clubs across Europe, Jansson said: “Yes, I understand the interest. He is a forward with a great physique and speed and already a skilled goalscorer.”
Meanwhile, Hammarby scout Mikael Hjelmberg said: “Emil is a forward with a very good physique.
“He has an extreme speed and is a natural goalscorer.”
In other news, Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling following his loan spell at Roma.
Having been told by Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he was down the pecking order for game time, Smalling has resurrected his form in the Serie A this season.
Everton and Tottenham have previously been linked with a move for the centre-back but a report has claimed that Arsenal are now also in the hunt.
